WMS Family Science Night on May 1 to feature Ka’iulani Murphy

The Waimea Middle School Family Science Night is 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 1. The theme is “Malama Honua: Caring for Island Earth — Our Natural Environment, Children and All Humankind,” which is the core message of Hokule’a’s World Wide Voyage, which sets sail at the end of May. The event will feature Ka’iulani Murphy, navigator for the Hokule’a. Born and raised in Waimea and a former student of WMS, she will give a talk about the upcoming voyage. Science stations include dryland forest and Kohanaiki alkaline ponds, Hawaiian biomes, convection, vortexes, flubber, the Mala’ai school garden and more. Sixth grade students will display crafted wa’a, seventh graders will offer their plant projects and eighth graders will talk about weather and water quality projects. Includes science door prizes.
