Cindy Montgomery, a veteran college counseling professional, is returning to Hawaii Preparatory Academy as assistant director of college counseling, a position she held prior to relocating to Oahu in 2009.

Montgomery, who begins her duties in August, was last at American Renaissance Academy, where she serves as director of college counseling and team leader of academics and school program. She just completed her term as president of the Hawaii Association for College Admission Counseling (HACAC). As president, Montgomery ran all of the association’s college counseling initiatives for the state of Hawaii.

“Cindy is recognized as one of the top college counselors in the state and we’re very excited about having her return to our college counseling team,” said Headmaster Lindsay Barnes.

In addition to serving as HPA’s assistant director of college counseling from 2006 to 2009, Montgomery previously worked as a college admissions consultant assisting domestic and international clients with the college application process. She also was a teaching assistant at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Montgomery earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island and holds two master’s degrees from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

HPA has the rare distinction of being the only high school in Hawaii with two former HACAC presidents serving on its college counseling team. In addition to their state leadership duties, HACAC presidents represent Hawaii on the Presidents Council of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and help shape the national agenda for their profession.
