Kohala Elementary School celebrates bluegrass

On Monday, Jan. 27, Kohala Elementary School fifth graders hosted bluegrass artists Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum through Kahilu Theatre’s youth program. Lewis, a bluegrass vocalist and fiddle player, is one of the great country and bluegrass vocalists of our time. Her 30-year career as a stirring vocalist, gifted songwriter, champion fiddler, and bandleader has earned her a Grammy, and twice named her Female Vocalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. Rozum is her longtime collaborator, and he performed on mandolin and guitar. His strong accompaniment and comic banter added fun and excitement to the performance.
