Hawaii Preparatory Academy is one of three schools on Hawaii Island that will be showcased in PBS Hawaii’s first statewide Hiki No Festival, in North Hawaii at HPA at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, at Gates Performing Arts Center, as well as other schools statewide.
The festival honors student-produced video stories that are nominated in this year’s Hiki No Awards, and aired last school year on Hiki No, PBS Hawaii’s student news program.
Hawaii Preparatory Academy is nominated for its work as a “home-base” or host school during a full episode of Hiki No. During the news program’s home-base segments, students present interesting details about their school and community.
The winners of the Hiki No Awards will be announced via live stream on Wednesday, Sep. 17, at PBSHawaii.org. Leslie Wilcox, president and CEO of PBS Hawaii, will present the winners with Donna Tanoue, president of Bank of Hawaii Foundation, Hiki No’s founding broadcast underwriter. A panel of veteran local news professionals will determine the winners. View past episodes or learn more about Hiki No online at PBSHawaii.org/hikino.
