The Parker School debate team came in second place overall out of the 14 schools that participated in the six-round, 15-hour tournament at the Mid-Pacific Institute Qualifying Debate Tournament on Oahu on Feb. 16. Iolani School earned first place.
Parker students took first place in four out of the six debate categories: Paul Gregg in Championship Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Sivan Najita in Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Elliott Jacobson and Maia Tarnas in Advanced Public Forum Debate, and Kyley Nishimura and Nya Phillips in Beginning Public Forum Debate. Lysha Matsunobu qualified in Championship Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and Keala Prietto and Nohili Thompson qualified in Advanced Public Forum Debate.
From the last two qualifying tournaments, Parker now has 15 students who have qualified for the state tournament in April. They will next compete in the Big Island District Debate Qualifying Tournament which will take place on March 5 at Parker School. Visit www.parkerschool.net for more information.
