Academy Swim Club Coaches Mark Noetzel and Barb Kopra spent the spring/summer season working with swimmers on the club’s competitive White and Blue teams to improve their technique, shave seconds off their best times, and have fun with their teammates and coaches at meets, practices, and team social events.

Coach Sarie Imonen enjoyed introducing Team Red and Novice swimmers to the sport. They learned proper swimming technique while having fun and playing games. Team members Sadie Blevins, Jenna Blevins, Romilly Benedict, Minnow Benedict, Ellie Acosta, Keilani Melton, Eva Delgado, and Grace Tadaki, participated in their first swim meet, and are eager to swim in more this season.

Seven ASC swimmers qualified for the 2014 Hawaiian Long Course State Championships: Taylor Doherty, Karly Noetzel, Jackie Payne, Katie Payne, Malia Dills and Kaile Dills.

Under the direction of instructors Bhillie Luciani, Courtney Barro-Kilmede, Taylor Doherty, Tucker Higgins, Karly Noetzel, Ryanne Doherty, Kyra Hartley, Tola Mahoney, John Thomas Murray, Brock Imonen, and Michael Duggan, HPA/ASC’s Summer Swim Academy successfully taught 58 swimmers in session on and 83 swimmers in session two to become stronger, more effective swimmers.

The Academy Swim Club fall season, begins Aug. 18 with open registration on their website for returning as well as new swimmers. Students of all abilities, competitive to novice, from the communities of Kohala, Waimea, Honokaa, and Waikoloa, may register for another season at the Hawaii Preparatory Academy pool.
