The Waimea Community Association town meeting is at 5:15 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, in the Waimea School cafeteria. All are invited. Two very different issues impacting the community top the agenda — loose dogs and the high cost of electricity. First will be a panel discussion on recent incidents involving loose dogs. Panel members will include a representative of the Hawaii Island Humane Society, police department and County Prosecutor’s Office as well as community members who have been victims of bad dog incidents. The intention of the panel is to educate the public on the laws pertaining to dogs, enforcement procedures and consequences – and whether changes are needed.
Second will be a discussion led by Parker Ranch President and CEO Dutch Kuyper about the developing an integrated resource plan to explore how its energy resources may benefit the communities of Waimea, North Kohala and possibly the Island of Hawaii. Kuyper will present the rationale for adopting a holistic approach for conducting this research and development effort. Coffee will be provided by Starbucks. Attendees are urged to support Waimea’s Food Pantry with cash or checks. For information, contact WCA President Sherman Warner at 885-1725.
