The Waikoloa Dry Forest Initiative needs help planting 500 more trees, and will hold a workday, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday, June 15. With the help of volunteers, the group as already prepped and planted eight acres in the dry forest this year. They are finishing up their planting for the season, but still have a few hundred plants to go.
To volunteer on June 15, meet the group at the corner of Waikoloa Road and Quarry Road just before 8 a.m. There will be time for a short tour and refreshments and celebratory pau hana treats. Bring a water bottle, sunscreen and a hat, and wear good shoes. The Waikoloa Dry Forest Initiative staff will provide tools and gloves.
