Thelma Parker Library celebrates 35 years in October

Thelma Parker Library celebrates 35 years since opening its doors on Oct. 26, 1978. Named after Thelma Parker, mother of Richard Smart, the public library serves Waimea, surrounding communities and area schools. A series of events at the library are planned by library staff and Friends of the Library, including:

· Oct. 9 Wednesday, 6-7 p.m. Waimea published author Darien Gee will talk about her career to inspire others.

· Oct. 12 Saturday, 10-11:30 a.m. Origami with Bonnie Cherni.

· Oct. 12 Saturday, 2 p.m. Taiko drumming in the parking lot by Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko from Kohala/Waimea.

· Oct. 16 Wednesday, 6-7 p.m. Tutu’s House Writers Support Group will read their works and offer writing encouragement.

· Oct. 19 Saturday, 6-8 p.m. Amazing Race! A treasure/scavenger hunt race using the Dewey Decimal System in the library, for pairs or individuals. Prizes offered.

· Oct. 26 Saturday, 5-7 p.m. Potluck Pupu Party with local musicians providing entertainment.
