The Friends of Thelma Parker Memorial Library annual general membership meeting is at 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, at the library conference room. Includes election of officers and nominations will be accepted from the floor to add to a proposed slate. All are welcome. Kathy Painton, public affairs officer and historian for the Camp Tarawa Detachment Program, will present “Camp Tarawa, A Personal Interest.” Painton has a very personal connection to the Waimea community—her dad was at Camp Tarawa with the 5th Marine Division. The talk will focus on Waimea’s contribution in achieving victories in the Pacific Campaign during World War II. Attendees invited to bring along any personal mementos that relate to Camp Tarawa as the detachment has plans for a museum and your items could be displayed in a future exhibit. Buffet dinner will be served, furnished by the board. Attendees may bring a pupu or dessert to share.
