Next Third Thursday Thrive lecture is Jan. 16

The next Third Thursday Thrive Lecture Series is Honokaa, is at 6 p.m., Jan. 16, at the North Hawaii Education and Research Center.

The Third Thursday Thrive topics for January and February are focused on personal health this winter, and are free to the public. The Jan. 16 gathering fwill eature a lecture by vegan physician Lawrence Derbes entitled, “How to eliminate pharmaceuticals from your life and extend it by 20 Years.” Derbes is a long-time vegan and board-certified cardiologist practicing in Waimea, where he lives with his family. Dr. Derbes will talk on how diet and other simple lifestyle adjustments can lead to a longer,

healthier, more vibrant life. Learn the steps to take back control of your health and have more healthy and enjoyable years.

On Feb. 20, the group will talk-story with naturopaths, Marcel Hernandez, ND and Connie Hernandez, ND. Hernandez uses an integrated therapeutic approach to help his patients address their health concerns. Among the therapies he employs are clinical nutrition, vitamin and mineral therapy, herbal medicine, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, lifestyle counseling and bioenergetics medicine.

His wife, Connie Hernandez, specializes in women’s health care, peri-menopause, bio-identical hormones, adjunctive care for cancer patients, and spiritual counseling. She favors dietary and lifestyle change, nutritional supplementation, botanical medicine, flower essences and affirmation in her treatment protocols, and believes the deepest healing involves spiritual transformation. Connie Hernandez is also a teacher of ananda healing. Their spring series will focus on enlightened politics.

The Third Thursday Thrive potluck takes place on the third Thursday of every month, 6-8p.m., and features live music courtesy of the Mamane Street Music Club. Organized by Honokaa community volunteers, the eclectic series of lectures and presentations inspire, inform and educate. Bring a dish to share, your own drink, plate and utensils, and your curiosity. We meet at the North Hawaii Education and Research Center at 45-539 Plumeria St., Honokaa. All are welcome.
