The Kawaihae Canoe Club spring Heritage Bazaar and Silent Auction, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 6, at Kawaihae Harbor.
The day includes canoe rides, local crafts, homemade foods, rummage sale and silent auction, music, food and fun. Free admission.
The goal of Kawaihae Canoe Club is to perpetuate canoe culture and outrigger paddling. The fundraising event will help keep valuable canoe programs going, especially for the keiki paddlers who begin racing at age 12.
Youth paddlers are taught the value of teamwork, hard exercise and responsibility to the group. The Kawaihae Canoe Club provides for a van to pick up youth paddlers after school both in Waimea and Kohala so that they can get to practice. Dues scholarships are made available when needed.
The spring fundraiser will help support insurance for racing paddlers as well as canoe and equipment maintenance and important repair of wind damage sustained by structures at the club in recent weeks. For information or to donate please call 880-1576 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
