Andrew Howard, astronomer from the University of Hawaii’s Institute for Astronomy, will give the Keck Observatory Astronomy Talk, The Search for Other Earths, from 7 to 8 p.m., Nov. 21, at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.
Howard’s talk will discuss the hunt for exoplanets and the quest for another Earth. Since 1995, more than 3,000 exoplanets have been discovered. Many of these planets look nothing like the planets of our solar system — strange orbits, unusual compositions, and unknown beginnings. Howard will tour this diverse landscape of exoplanets, including the recent discoveries of planets the size of Earth. This programs is free and open to the public, and made possible by support of the Keck Observatory Rising Stars Fund and the Rob and Terry Ryan Foundation.
