Honokaa Schools complex applies for 21st Century Grant

Honokaa High and Intermediate School and its complex feeder schools – Waimea Elementary, Waimea Middle Public Conversion Charter, Paauilo Elementary and Intermediate – are applying for a 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant in partnership with Friends of the Future.

Utilizing a STEM focus, potential plans include providing relevant afterschool activities and summer programs related to science, technology, engineering and math.

Grant awards will be made in October. If the complex is successful in its bid, watch for bulletins and flyers throughout the community announcing the programs. All programs will be open to any student, public, private or home schooled.

Friends of the Future is a Hawaii non-profit 501(c)3 located in Waimea. Created by a group of individuals from diverse backgrounds in 1991, their shared common desire, “to create trust and harmony among the diverse people of Hawaii, through a process where all people contribute their deepest values, create shared visions and improve communities” is now the organization’s mission.
