The ‘aina is the classroom for a weeklong High School Agricultural Internship Program on Hawaii Island. The spring 2014 program runs March 17–21, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Applications are due Friday, Feb. 28.
Based at The Kohala Center’s Ka Hua ‘Aina training farm in Honokaa, interns gain hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture and learn about island food systems. They will visit and work on farms along the Hamakua Coast and earn a stipend for their work. The program also includes field trips to processing facilities and wholesalers, and the opportunity to meet island and state agricultural leaders.
