Composting workshops offered

Recycle Hawaii is offering ongoing two-hour compost workshops open to beginners with no composting experience as well as those wanting to learn more. Fee is $10 per adult with no charge for children. Participants will receive a voucher for a free Earth Machine backyard composter.

The next workshops in North Hawaii are Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Montessori Education Center of Hawaii, 65-1297 Opelo Rd. in Waimea, and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Waikoloa Village Association Community Room, 68-1792 Melia St. in Waikoloa. Backyard Composting Workshops are taught by master composter and recycler Ann Hassler and covers basic composting techniques, plus composting with worms. Waimea Compost Workshops are offered every other Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. by Samantha Robinson and Noah Dodd at the Waimea Homestead Farmers Market. Their session covers basic aerobic composting as well as sheet, worm, and bokashi composting. The next workshops will be offered on Aug. 23, Sept. 6 and 20.
