The Alex and Duke DeRego Foundation will offer their Junior Lifeguard Summer Session from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 7-11 and July 14-18.
All sessions will have two instructors who are certified in lifeguarding, first aid, CPR and AED and will be accompanied by two volunteers. Program allows up to 25 junior lifeguard participants. The Alex & Duke De Rego Foundation will hold the program on the south end of Hapuna Beach in the big pavilion.
Daily activities will include: introduction to junior lifeguarding, introduction to first aid and CPR, demonstration on how to apply first aid on various types of injuries, discussions, classwork, introduction to lifeguard rescue equipment, rescue skills and techniques, run 200 yards, swim 200 yards, paddle board 100 yards, tow in with buoy and fin. Participants are required to bring a lunch, water and sunscreen. Cost is $20.
