Saturday, Nov. 16, is the 2nd annual Hamakua Youth Foundation Hula Festival at the Honoka’a People’s Theatre. The event will be a community celebration of Hawaiian music, dance, and culture. You’ll have an enjoyable fun experience knowing that all proceeds go to supporting the Hamakua Youth Center.
Doors open at 4 p.m. with an opportunity to bid on some silent auction items donated by supporters. The show begins with emcee Eddie Ku kicking off festivities at 5 p.m. Advance purchase of tickets is encouraged. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for keiki 12 and under. You can also stop by or call the Youth Center at 775-0976 for tickets. Remaining tickets will also be available at the door.
The program features both kahiko and auana hula performances including Halau o Po’ohaka-Kumu Lo’ea Hulali Covington, Halau Na Lei Punahele-Kuma Hula Punahele Andrade, Halau Hula Helee’i Pua O Waipi’o- Kuma Hula Haleakala Sakata, and Lanakila Manguil’s community group Hula Me Ka Honua. The theater is providing food for purchase for the early evening event.
