“The Music Man,” Waimea Community Theatre’s 50th anniversary summer musical is edging towards completion, with a scheduled opening date of Aug. 2 at Parker School Theatre. Along with the production, WCT will produce T-shirts for cast and crew with a unique design created by cast members Violet Duncan, 11, and sister Lily Duncan, 9.
Still being sought for the production are additional musicians as well as a lighting operator. According to director Miguel Bray, participation in community theater projects is a great way to gain experience and meet friends, while contributing to the life of the community. Musicians for the production allow the group to greatly enhance the performances despite the limitations of the older theater building.
Parker School Theatre has recently upgraded their lighting system to a more state-of-the-art system for a small venue, and an operator with lighting experience or with a strong desire to learn the technical aspects of small-system lighting would be extremely beneficial to the upcoming production. Interested volunteers may contact Waimea Community Theatre at 885-5818 or the director at 938-3062.
Supported by a diverse cast and imaginative production, the Broadway musical will be presented on three weekends, beginning Aug. 2 and running through August 18. Friday and Saturday night curtain times are 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees beginning at 3 p.m. Tickets for the show can be purchased in advance with a pre-sale discount from cast members, or from the group’s ticket outlets in Waimea, Waimea General Store and Without Boundaries gift shop. Suite Possibilities in Kailua-Kona also handles tickets for the show.
Tickets at the door run $18 for adults, $15 for seniors 60 and up or students of any age, $10 for children 10 and under. The theater box office is open about one hour prior to show times. More information is available at the group’s website at
