Kelly Wakayama and Susan Johnson won their divisions during the Hawaii State Championship for the World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters in Honolulu at the convention center on July 7.

Wakayama competed in the bench press, won her division and set a Hawaii state record. She is the business manager of Five Mountain Fitness Center in Waimea. Johnson competed in the deadlift, won her division, and also set a Hawaii state record. Johnson is the owner of Five Mountain Fitness Center.

Both women now qualify for the world championship meet that will be held in November of this year in Reno. Wakayama and Johnson have gone through journeys of losing weight, and both have lost more than 85 pounds each. Both work and train at Five Mountain Fitness Center in Waimea and are personal trainers. Johnson said William Case, also an owner of Five Mountain Fitness, helped her train and was integral to her win.
