Charles Wilhelm’s Ultimate Super Horse Challenge for junior riders is a clinic and competition for ages 12-18 that tests the communication between horse and rider, horsemanship and riding skills at the walk, trot and lope. The event, slated for Aug. 2-3, at the Parker Ranch Arena in Waimea, is the first-ever competition of its kind in Hawaii, and is presented by the Hawaii Horse Expo 2014 and the Hawaii District High School Rodeo Association.
What is a super horse? According to Wilhelm, America’s most respected horse trainer, author and television host Wilhelm, “A super horse can do extraordinary things over and above the everyday challenge.”
The Ultimate Super Horse Junior Challenge is suitable for young riders of any discipline and horses of all breeds. A minimum of 15 and maximum of 30 horse and rider teams will participate in the competition. As the horse and rider work through each event, they will be judged on several criteria and overall performance. The top five horse and rider teams will advance to the finale on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 3.
Extensive prizes, including a $1,000 grant donated by Hawaii Horse Expo, will be presented. Entry forms, rules, fees, schedules, waivers, prize list and additional details on the entry process are available for download at HawaiiHorseExpo.com or CharlesWilhelm.com. Interested riders may also call Tom Richmond at 989-1940 or Deedee Keakealani Bertelmann at 936-9864 for more information.
Proceeds from Hawaii Horse Expo benefit the Humane Society’s Horse Rescue Fund, which helps abused and abandoned horses on the island. HHE has garnered considerable attention for attracting world-renowned equine experts who travel from across the mainland U.S. to share their knowledge and skills.
