This poem came to life, the day DOMA died:
With Liberty and Justice For All
I weep as I feel the weight of oppression lifting off my shoulders and
Off the shoulders of all my American lesbian sisters and gay brothers.
As we feel the energy of equality surge through our veins,
We can embrace our human potential,
Living fully in the majesty of who we are
Providing a new, positive wave of dignity and respect
For our young sisters and brothers who identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual.
With that energetic wave, we can live healthy, productive, loving lives and
I believe there will be a reduction in substance abuse, alcoholism,
Overeating (my issue since coming out), and suicide among
Lesbian, gay and bisexual people nationwide.
I am filled with gratitude.
Governor Abercrombie and members of the government in Hawaii, please call a special session to pass Marriage Equality here, so lesbian and gay couples can receive all the state and federal benefits of marriage.
