Free youth and family fishing photo contest

The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary and Conservation International’s Hawaii Fish Trust, in partnership with the Sportfishing Conservancy, will host the 2013 Sanctuary Classic – a free fishing photo contest designed to promote recreational opportunities and reward sustainable fishing in America’s National Marine Sanctuaries. The nationwide contest opened on World Oceans Day, June 8, and ends on Labor Day, Sept. 2.

The Sportfishing Conservancy will award, based on online voting, ten $100 weekly prizes for the best photos from across the country that show fishing in a national marine sanctuary or adjacent waters. At the end of the summer additional $1,000 prize scholarships will be awarded for the four pictures that best exemplify youth fishing, family fishing, or conservation in a sanctuary.

The sanctuary is administered by a partnership of NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries and the State of Hawaii through DLNR. For information on the 2013 Sanctuary Classic and how to enter, visit www.sanctuaryclassic.org.
