If you’re reading North Hawaii News for the first time today, we are grateful to be in your home. If you’re a loyal reader, we thank you and hope we’re serving you well.
Today we have great news –we are expanding our circulation to include mail delivery while still keeping our inserts in our daily Stephen’s Media publications, West Hawaii Today and the Hawaii Tribune-Herald, as well as our newsstands throughout North Hawaii.
We’ve started our free mail delivery with the Waimea and Waikoloa areas, and will eventually move into other areas in North Hawaii. We are also undergoing exciting new design changes with specific section headings for easier reading.
Since our start in 2000, it has been our goal to serve all of our readers in the North Hawaii area with thoughtful, interesting features that explore and highlight the people, events, topics and organizations that touch our community. To help us, we have a team of well-seasoned and talented freelance writers and photographers that include: Catherine Tarleton, Ma’ata Tukuafu, Melora Purell, Patti Cook, Karen Rose, Anna Pacheco and Sarah Anderson. We are always looking for strong writers and experienced photographers, so if you have enthusiasm and love to serve your community in North Hawaii, please contact me.
We also have a great group of columnists, all professionals in their respective fields, who educate through relevant and useful advice and information – Darien Gee with Writer’s Column, Angela Thomas with Baby Steps, Karyn Clay with Kupuna Transitions, the W. M. Keck Observatory with Cosmic Matters and volunteers of Coqui-Free Waimea who write their self-named column. And of course, we also have Dr. Shay Bintliff who supplies us with our weekly dose of Laughter Therapy.
Our hope is not only to help you learn more about the outstanding people, organizations and innovative businesses that make our area unique, but also to serve as your information hub for local events and happenings. We do that through three sections –our Community Calendar, which is a collection of brief, 100-word or less listings of events; Northern Notes, which includes slightly longer submissions of imminent events of interest as well as personal or organizational accolades, and our designated School News section, for all schools and home-school families in the North Hawaii Area.
For School News, we welcome your submissions of photos and features from school trips, listings of class awards, accomplishments and programs, upcoming events, and individual student accolades – teachers, parents and grandparents are encouraged to submit along with the schools in North Hawaii. We also welcome your Northern Notes and Calendar submissions.
As members of our community, we appreciate and respect your ideas, so please feel free to email me with your questions, comments, feature suggestions and Letters to the Editor at email@example.com. Our website often includes extra photos, so please visit us at www.northhawaiinews.com and on Facebook.
We thank you again for welcoming us, and we look forward to serving you for many years to come.
