Six Academy Swim Club Blue Team swimmers attended the Hawaiian Long Course State Championship on Maui in July: Bhillie Luciani, Jellian Cuartero, Taylor Doherty, Karly Noetzel, Jackie Payne and Kai Grilley. Three swimmers earned medals in their events: Luciani placed fifth in the 200 butterfly, Noetzel placed fifth in the 50 freestyle with a new team record and Western Zone qualifying time. Doherty placed sixth in the 100 backstroke, seventh in the 50 freestyle, and eighth in the 200 backstroke. Doherty also broke four team records in the 100 and 200 freestyle and 100 and 200 backstroke, while tying the 100 butterfly team record, held by coach Kim Kopra.

All swimmers from the Competitive White and Blue teams continued to improve their technique, shave seconds off their best times, and have fun with their teammates and coaches at meets, practices, and team social events. The Summer Red Team Swimmers enjoyed being introduced to the sport, learning proper swimming technique while having fun and playing games.

The Academy Swim Club fall season begins Aug. 26. Swimmers of all abilities, competitive to novice, are invited to join. Visit the website at academyswimhawaii.org to view practice group descriptions and times, or for open registration for returning and new swimmers.
