WHAT’S HAPPENING AT TUTU’S HOUSE IN FEBRUARY 2012.

There is no fee to participate in Tutu’s House Programs, although donations are very much appreciated. Please call 885-6777 to register for classes. For more details, visit tutushouse.org and click on Newsletter. Tutu’s House & Earl’s Garage will be closed Feb. 20 in observance of Presidents’ Day.

YOGA-4-LIFE with Kate Stewart, RN, RYT; join this “wellness yoga” program, a union of mind and body, linking breath with movement, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday, except Feb. 20.

TUMBLE FUN with Heidi, Jaime or Jennifer; for keiki age 3 to 5 years and their parents and grandparents. Enjoy an afternoon of playing, skipping, jumping, balance, movement, songs and rhythm. From 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

BEGINNING GUITAR & VOCALS with Bobby Teixeira; learn basic music theory, strumming patterns and chords to accompany your voice. Bring your own guitar. Ages 12 to adult are welcome. From 3 to 4:30 p.m every Friday.

RESTORATIVE YOGA with Zettelyss Amora, RYT, integrative yoga therapist; promotes healing on all levels of being. Every 12:30 to1:30 p.m every Thursday.

YIN-YANG YOGA with Zettelyss Amora, RYT, integrative yoga therapist; YIN yoga is a system of long-held, passive yoga poses believed to stimulate the flow of chi (life force energy). YANG yoga is a dynamic practice of yoga postures that develops physical strength, agility and grace. From 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. every Thursday.

CIRCUIT TRAINING with Kathy Cazimero, fitness enthusiast; a one-hour cardio and strength workout. Bring your own small weights, athletic shoes, a towel and comfortable clothes. From 8 to 9 a.m. every Tuesday and Friday.

SCRABBLE MEETUP hosted by Annabel Spielman; open to all ages and skill levels (including beginners). Bring your friends and family; the idea is to have fun, as well as stimulate our brains. From 1 to 4 p.m. every Friday.

TUTU’S QUILTERS with Kathy Lukens; for beginners and experienced; learn quilting Hawaiian style while meeting a great group of people; initial supplies are provided or bring something you are working on. From 9:30 a.m. to noon every Monday, except Feb. 20.

PLAY HANAFUDA with Ken Tsuhako; Hanafuda (flower cards) is a traditional Japanese card game based on images related to nature and the seasons. Open to ages 10 to 100, first-time players or those who have played before. From 12:30 to 2 p.m every Monday, except Feb. 20.

ADVANCED UKULELE with Aunty Marjie Spencer; join other experienced players of all ages to learn more about the ukulele through friendship and song. Bring your own ukulele and 3-ring binder for music. From 9:30 to 11 a.m Feb. 21.

TUTU’S HOUSE WRITERS’ GROUP co-hosted by avid writers Greer Woodward, John Holland and Jim Cisler; a supportive environment for writers at any level of writing skill and experience. Participants are invited to read their work and request from the group the type of feedback they would like. From 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday.

KNITTING & KNITTING SUPPORT with Gretchen Geisler, lifetime knitter, pattern designer and fiber artist; for ages 10 to adult, and all skill levels. Bring your projects. Beginners will be guided into a suitable project. From 12:30 to 3 p.m. every Tuesday.

BEGINNER’S YOGA with Kiyomi Falcon or Marie Jordan. Yoga increases body awareness; relieves chronic stress patterns and muscle strain; relaxes mind and body; centers attention; sharpens concentration; and frees the spirit. Kiyomi also incorporates meditation practice into this class. From 4 to 5 p.m. every Tuesday.

BABY SIGNING & OHANA CONNECTIONS with Ranya Henson; a program especially designed for parents with children from birth to 24 months. Learn to use Baby Signs for early communication. The social interaction and camaraderie are also an important component of these sessions. From 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Feb. 22.

UNDERSTANDING LEARNING DISABILITIES with Alice Bratton. This program is designed to give teachers and parents the opportunity to learn how to play a more effective role in the life of a learning disabled child. KARMIC ALCHEMY with Vincent Ferrer; a yoga-based program with an eclectic conglomerate of energetic and physical movements. Recommended for the intermediate to experienced practitioner. From 10:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 11 and 25.

TAKING GREAT DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS with Paul Garneau Clark, avid photographer. Learn to understand and use the features of your camera, lighting and composition techniques, and developing an “eye” for what you want to capture. All levels of experience are welcome. Please bring your digital camera and the camera’s manual. From 1:30 to 3 p.m. Feb. 11.

HEART-CENTERED HEALING with Valerie Lincoln, PhD, RN, clinical leader of integrative services at Woodwinds Health Campus in Woodbury, Minn. Participants may look forward to trying easy-to-access tools to help support personal resilience and to reduce the effects of stress. Call 885-6777 to register. From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 13.

INTRODUCTION TO GENEALOGY and FAMILY HISTORY with genealogist and historian Paul Garneau Clark. If you ever wanted to find your family roots, but did not know how to get started, this is your chance. Learn what resources you can use to develop your own family tree. From 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 17.

THE WAY OF QIGONG: RENEW YOUR LIFE FORCE with Ken Cohen (kennethcohen.com). Qigong, “energy skill,” is an ancient Chinese system of gentle movements and meditation known for its dramatic effects on health, vitality and clarity of mind. Ken will teach participants a few enjoyable, easy-to-learn techniques. From 10 to11:30 a.m. Feb. 18.

CURANDERISMO, the HEALING ART of MEXICO, with Grace Alvarez Sesma, a curandera (traditional healer) of Mexican/Yaqui heritage. Learn about the history and spirit of Curanderismo and experience a traditional Limpia (Mesoamerican purification ceremony), one of the surviving practices rooted in Aztec and Mayan spiritual wisdom. From 1 to 2:30 p.m Feb. 18.

OREGON’S AID IN DYING EXPERIENCE experts concur Hawaii physicians may currently provide aid in dying. What does this mean? Compassion & Choices Hawaii presents a forum with two independent experts on their experience under Oregon’s Death with Dignity Act. Learn more at CompassionAndChoicesHI.org. NEPTUNE ENTERING PISCES, A SPIRITUAL RENAISSANCE with Patty Herrera, MA. Neptune’s influences will be discussed both on a personal level and collectively we will explore this impact on us as individuals. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 22.

SPOKEN WORD — OPEN MIC NIGHT hosted by Boyce Brown; come read or recite an original or favorite poem. Share your lyrics, rap or short story-telling skills. All ages welcome, although some material may include adult themes and language. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24.

AARP DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM with Susan Akeo, AARP certified instructor; classroom refresher course designed for drivers 50 years and over, though younger drivers are welcome. All participants receive a certificate upon completion of course, which may allow you to receive a discount on your insurance. Registration is required by calling 885-4789 (evenings); from 8:30a.m. to 12:30 p.m Feb. 25.

CREATE and PRINT YOUR OWN BOOK with Paul Garneau Clark, creator of numerous photography, trip, family event, history and tour books. This class provides an introduction to the simple and relatively inexpensive print-on-demand technology now available to everyone. From 1:30 to 3 p.m. Feb. 25.

SUPPORT GROUPS

AL-ANON FOR THOSE WHO LOVE ALCOHOLICS Al-Anon is a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength and hope, in order to solve common problems. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday.

CANCER SUPPORT GROUP for WOMEN for women survivors, currently in treatment, recently diagnosed or living with cancer. Share and aid each other in healing of cancer; come feel the support others can give. From 12:30 to 2 p.m. Feb. 22.

CHRONIC FATIGUE CONDITIONS with Carol Buck; learn about fibromyalgia, lupus, chronic fatigue, MS, aluminum toxicity, celiac and other autoimmune disorders; allopathic (Western) and complementary treatments. Discover more about your condition so you can work more effectively with your physician. From 12:30 to 2 p.m. Feb. 28.
